WR102 Village Enterprise Uganda

In rural East Africa more than 70% of the population lives in extreme poverty on less than $2 a day. Village Enterprise exists to equip people living in extreme poverty in Kenya and Uganda with the resources, knowledge and confidence to create a micro-business.

Over the last 25 years, Village Enterprise has started over 30,000 businessestrained over 132,000 new small business owners and lifted over 663,000 people out of extreme poverty. The impact is far-reaching, as small business owners don’t just achieve a better standard of living for themselves, but their families, and their communities as well.

The Village Enterprise innovative model begins with business training, a start-up grant (not loans), on-going business mentoring, and a savings group. This model is highly effective and impactful – after 4 years, 75% of our businesses are in operation.

Families are empowered to not just meet their daily needs, but develop business skills, increase their savings and raise their children’s education levels, stopping the cycle of poverty in its tracks!
